Buying for the men in your life can be tough. Here are my Father’s Day gift ideas for 2019 – ranging from stocking filler items to more luxurious with local and independent options. You can buy everything on this list online for your convenience.
Superhero Sweets
Want something small to gift from the kids then the Jelly Belly DC Collection jelly beans will appeal to a dad’s inner geek. I’m getting Papa Ginge some Batman and Superman ones from the kids just for something extra to open on the day.
North East gifts
For that extra special gift, the award-winning Northumberland hotel, Matfen Hall (which has its own acclaimed Golf Club and Spa) has put treats for dads front and centre on the menu this June – offering the perfect way to say Happy Father’s Day.
Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea
Take your dad for a relaxed afternoon in the Hotel’s Two AA Rosetted Library Restaurant for a special Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea (£35 for two).
Taking inspiration from the classic Gentleman’s clubs, guests will be served a of home-cooked Northumbrian Ham, tomato and rocket open sandwich; a homemade Scotch egg; a pancetta and cheese scone; a fruit scone with all of the accompanying preserves, a pork pie, a chocolate and raspberry rum trifle and a locally sourced pot of tea from Newcastle tea specialists Ringtons.
Golf
18 Holes and a Bottle of Beer
Dads can enjoy 18 holes of golf on one of Northumberland’s finest courses – rounded off nicely with a bottle of beer back at the Keeper’s Lodge for £20 per person.
18 Holes, One Course Meal and a Bottle of Beer
Or for just £5 more per person, you can add a slap up main course from the Keeper’s Lodge standard menu or its Sunday lunch offering (£25 per person.
Gift vouchers for all of the above Father’s Day special offers are available at www.matfenhall.com.
Beer
For the men who love beer, the Twice Brewed Brewery Gift Bundle Voucher (£29.99) is the perfect way to show your appreciation to your beer-mad dad this Father’s Day. It includes:
- Tour of the Brew House Brewery – A member of the Brew House team will show you through the process of brewing beer. You’ll also get a tasting plank of beers to try and a bottle of our beer to take home. Tours last between 60 and 90 minutes.
- 3 Beer Gift Pack – Choose any combination of our beers and/or a branded pint glass.
- T-Shirt – A Twice Brewed branded t-shirt (comes in Small, Medium and Large).
Once purchased, they simply send your voucher to your email address – then you can simply print and pop in a card, or forward to your Dad. To redeem, he just needs to call us them to arrange his Brew House tour date. He can then pick up his beer gift pack and t-shirt on the day of the tour.
Coffee
If you are buying for a non-boozing dad then how about a pack of Ouseburn Coffee Company coffee £9.50? I did this for Papa Ginge last year and it went pretty fast.
T-Shirt
One of my favourite independent shops, Black and Beech currently have their Rad Dad baseball top on sale for £20 – perfect for Father’s Day. I have a number of their products and they are always great quality and so cool.
This top is 100% combed organic cotton with 90% reduced CO2. It is low carbon footprint apparel, and climate neutral. It’s ethically made by the Fair Wear Foundation – an independent, non-profit organisation striving to improve working conditions in the textile industry. The foundation is an initiative by trade organizations in the textile sector, trade unions, and NGO’s.

Gourmet Getaway
Want to get something a little more special and treat yourself while you are at it? This Gourmet Getaways Gift Box (affiliate link) £119.99 from Red Letter Days lets the recipient choose an overnight break with dinner and breakfast for 2 people from 325 locations in the UK and Europe. It’s a great way to gift a break for someone who needs one while still giving them a lot of choice.
WiFi Cloud Frame
For a more sentimental gift, the next generation of digital photo frames would make a superb Father’s Day gift. The nixplay seed 10 inch widescreen WiFi Cloud Frame £139.99 (Amazon affiliate link) allows you to share photos instantly from your smartphone to your frame. You don’t need a memory stick for this cloud frame and you can upload 15-second videos too.
Simply connect to a WiFi network and display your photos within minutes. It displays photos in ’16:10 High Resolution IPS Display’ and has a slim, cable-stand design. The nixplay seed uses a smart Hu-Motion Sensor so only displays when someone is around it.
I think this would make a great gift for your own dad (especially the ones not on social media) so you could set it up so photos of their grandchildren etc automatically pop up for them. It would also make a great gift to the dad who is in the office a lot, way more dynamic than just an old photo on his desk.
For the techie dads, this works with Instagram, Alexa, Dropbox, Facebook, Google Photos and Flickr. You can also invite friends and family to send photos to your frame directly (though with Papa Ginge’s friends that would be asking for trouble). All Nixplay Frames will be on sale for up to 25% off until June 16, 2019 on the Nixplay UK shop.
What will you be getting the dads in your life for Father’s Day? Let me know in the comments.
